27 August 2007 – Toronto to Frankfurt

We flew Air Transat, once again using the plastic bags to protect our bikes. Air Transit continues to be the cheapest for bicycles.

28 August 2007 – Frankfurt Airport to Kelsterbach – 6.5km

The bikes come together quickly, except for my bell which is broken.
We rode out of the airport onto a bike path beside the terminal buildings. Google maps provided the directions here. We rode the short distance into Kelsterbach and found the hotel we had booked. We walked around and took the path to the Main River. The airport and Kelsterbach are south of the river. The city of Frankfurt is north of the river.
For our first meal of the trip I opted for schnitzel. For some reason Judy went for pizza!

29 August 2007 – Kelsterbach to Erbach – 47 km

After breakfast, we go to the bike shop just as it was opening. The bell ringer stem on my bike had broken on the flight. The owner installed the bell and adjusted the gears – great service.
We ride along the Main River on a paved path to the Rhine.

We cross the Rhine and briefly visit Mainz. Back to the east side of the Rhine, we find a nice hotel in Erbach.

30 August 2007 – Erbach to St Goar – 47 km

Good breakfast. Sure can eat a lot when you are biking.
We stay on the east side of the river as we want to visit Rudesheim. We had visited Rudesheim in 1968. Very touristy wine town, but very picturesque.

We take the ferry across to Bingen. We pass by the Lorelei. A sharp bend in the river makes for strong currents.
